SOIL MODIFICATION

Trees depend on soil for support, nutrients and water. Soil quality directly impacts tree and shrub health, growth and longevity. High quality soils ensure that trees are receiving the necessities such as stability, water uptake, drainage, oxygen, nutrient availability and root and leaf growth.

Working with damaged urban soils can be challenging. Urban soils have often been degraded by the constant day to day activities of man, machines used in construction, contaminants and heavy pollutants. Returning organic matter to soil is one of the most important aspects of re-building soil integrity and provides nutrient rich humus back to your plants. ‘Humus’ contributes to moisture and nutrient retention. Soil microbes break down organic matter into humus allowing nutrients to be accessible in the soil. Degraded soils need assistance with structure thus providing plants and trees with their needs.  With years of training, study and experience, ARTISTREE can assess your existing or proposed site and soil will be modified to correct limiting factors for tree health should it be required.

Elm Leaf Beetle. We provide Elm leaf Beetle control guaranteed for 3 years to protect our majestic Elms around Victoria.

POOR CONDITIONS

The root systems of these Flowering Cherries were heavily compacted from constant foot traffic. Stunted growth and major deadwood indicated that the trees were in a state of decline. After inoculation and soil modification works within the drip line – now aerated and full of nutrients – they achieved a great show of flowers for the first time in 4 years. The cost of replacing these established trees would have been very expensive.

DISTRESSED PLANTS

Health care works on this large Magnolia in decline with rapid leaf drop included composting, heavy mulching, isolation of root zone and introduction of a watering regime. Photos are 8 months apart and an amazing tree lives on.

SOIL CONDITIONS

This Cumquat is a highly valued sentimental tree which was in decline. Extremely dry sandy soil, we provided soil modification works to help retain moisture and heavy mulching to replenish nitrogen in the soil. These pictures show the tree six months apart.
